Lüleburgaz ( Bergula , Greek Arkadiupolis , Bulgarian Люлебургас / Ljuleburgas , Latin Arcadiopolis ) is a city in Turkey .
geography
The city is the capital of the Lüleburgaz district of the same name in the Kırklareli province . The city is located about 40 km south of the provincial capital Kırklareli .
history
Arkadiopolis was 823 the last place of retreat for the Byzantine counter-emperor Thomas . The siege of the city by Byzantines and Bulgarians ended in October 823 with Thomas' extradition to Emperor Michael .
The site was the site of the historic Battle of Arcadiopolis in 970 AD, in which the Byzantines fought off a Bulgarian invasion. There is also a battlefield from Hunnic times. During the First Balkan War , Bulgarian troops won a victory over the Ottoman Empire in the Battle of Lüleburgaz in 1912 .
The city was famous for its tobacco pipe production , to which it owes its name ( lüle means the mouthpiece of the pipe in Turkish).

In the city there are some buildings by the architect Sinan .
In the surroundings of Lüleburgaz and Kırklareli there are archaeological sites, e.g. B. burial mounds , dolmens and menhirs .

The city is on the O-3 ( E80 ) motorway and the D100 ( E87 ) and D565 highways.
The city's train station is on the Istanbul Sirkeci – Swilengrad railway line .

Trivia
Because Lüleburgaz is one of the few places in Turkey that starts with an L. The L is rarely at the beginning of the word in Turkish.
