The railcars LAG No. 800-804 were four-axle electric railcars of the Lokalbahn Aktien-Gesellschaft (LAG) for the meter-gauge tram Ravensburg-Weingarten-Baienfurt .

history

The Ravensburg – Weingarten local railway, opened in 1888, was electrified with 750 V direct current in 1910 and extended to Baienfurt in 1911. From 1908 to 1910, five electric railcars were purchased from the Esslingen machine factory for operation, and the electrical equipment came from Siemens-Schuckert-Werken (SSW). In 1938 the LAG was taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn . The railcars were given the new numbers ET 196 01–05 in 1941. They kept that even after the takeover by the Deutsche Bundesbahn. Even when the main traffic in 1954 was taken over by two new railcars of the ET 195 series , the railcars were indispensable as reinforcement trains until the line was closed in 1959.

Initially, they were used with former steam train wagons and with two-axle sidecars purchased in 1910, and two four-axle sidecars 921 and 922 (EB 196 01 and 02) were purchased in 1937. Two two-axle or one four-axle sidecar could be taken along. After the railway was closed in 1959, the railcars were parked in Weingarten and scrapped in 1962.

construction

The railcars had an entrance at the ends of the car and in the middle of the vehicle. The entrances had moved in. While the middle entrance had a door from the start, the end entrances were initially closed with a concertina gate, but were soon replaced by closed revolving doors. There was a 2nd class compartment on either side of the central entrance, which was followed by a 3rd class compartment with four benches in the direction of the driver's cab. In 3rd class the seating was 2 + 2 with cross benches, a total of 32 seats, in 2nd class there was an upholstered bench with three seats under the windows, a total of twelve seats. After the conversion to 3rd class (before 1936), these compartments were also equipped with transverse benches, creating 16 additional 3rd class seats. The middle compartment was non-smoking, while the outer compartments were smoking compartments at times.

The six windows on each side could be lowered and a ventilation flap was installed over the windows. There were two windows in the front. In each bogie there was a dead-bearing motor on the outer axle . Originally there were two lyre brackets for the current collection, later one or two pantographs were installed. All pantographs were used in each case.

Initially, the railcars had an air pressure brake, and from 1928 a magnetic rail brake instead .

Originally the color scheme was dark green. From 1936 the railcars were two-colored: lime green with beige ribbon windows. They were later painted in the usual beige-light red railcar paint scheme. Most recently they were painted in the wine red of the Bundesbahn. In recent years, the corners of the wagons have been provided with a red and white striped warning mark.

The cars first had a central headlight, later two lights, indicators and rotating enamelled target signs. In addition, they later received two position lights on the roof corners. A ladder to access the roof was attached to the “Ravensburger” front wall.
