La Crosse is a white wine variety . It is a new breed between ES 114 x Seyval Blanc. The cross was made in 1971 by Elmer Swenson on his own farm near Osceola, Wisconsin . The St. Pepin grape variety was created at the same time by means of the same cross . La Crosse produces fruity white wines .
Plantations of the early ripening variety are in the American states of Nebraska ( viticulture in Nebraska ), Iowa ( viticulture in Iowa ), Minnesota ( viticulture in Minnesota ), Wisconsin ( viticulture in Wisconsin ), Illinois ( viticulture in Illinois ), Ohio ( viticulture in Ohio ) and South Dakota ( viticulture in South Dakota ) known.
Elmer Swenson was looking for early maturing and hardy varieties suitable for the northern United States. La Crosse is hardy to -25 degrees Fahrenheit (-31.6 ° C). The variety is susceptible to the fungal diseases powdery mildew and downy mildew .
