La Rivera is a town in the Oruro department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
La Rivera is the administrative seat of the province of Puerto de Mejillones and the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) La Rivera . La Rivera is located at the mouth of Rìo Mocomocone in the headwaters of the Río Sabaya at the foot of a hundred-meter-high round the mountain , 40 kilometers northwest of the salt lake Salar de Coipasa .

From Oruro, the largely unpaved road Ruta 12 leads 189 kilometers in a south-westerly direction via Ancaravi and Huachacalla to Sabaya and on to Pisiga on the Chilean border. In Sabaya, a dirt road branches off to the west and leads a further 32 kilometers along the Río Sabaya to La Rivera and from there to Carangas .
