Camp d'Aviació de la Sénia
During the civil war there was an airfield on the edge of the village . This was built by the air forces of the Republic of Spain at the beginning of the conflict and had three runways. After commissioning, it was used by both the Republican armed forces and the Red Army Air Force supporting them . After the national troops broke through to the Mediterranean in the spring of 1938, La Cenia was in the Franco- controlled area of the country. The square was immediately used by the National Spaniards and the German Condor Legion . In the summer of 1938 it was the main base of the Luftwaffe during the Battle of the Ebro Arch . Here lay Jagdgruppe 88 (J / 88) with three squadrons Bf-109 and a squadron Ju-87 and parts of the flak 88 (F / 88). A swarm of reconnaissance group 88 (A / 88) equipped with He-45 was also located here between May and November 1938. One of the later known participants in this last major conflict of the war was the most successful fighter pilot of the Condor Legion, Werner Mölders on the German side . There were alternative slopes in Alcala de Chivert / Alcalà de Xivert and Cati.
In the old town hall of the municipality there was initially a small provisional museum until it moved to its final location on August 20, 2011, the renovated former airfield command building. Diplomats from Russia and Kazakhstan, the successor states of the Soviet Union, were present at the opening ceremony; German diplomats did not take part in the event.
It is planned to expand the museum with an exhibition hall in the style of a contemporary hangar from the 1930s in order to exhibit complete aircraft for the first time, initially a Hispano Aviación HA-200 and a Polikarpow I-16 replica as well as another replica of the front fuselage section of a Tupolev SB- 2 . An airfield is even planned for a later date.
