Lachlan Keith Murdoch (born September 8, 1971 in London ) is an entrepreneur. Murdoch is a US , British, and Australian citizen. He is executive chairman of Nova Entertainment , co-chairman of News Corp , executive chairman and CEO of Fox Corporation , founder of Australian investment company Illyria Pty and a director of the Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney . He is considered one of the richest Australians.

career

Lachlan Murdoch was born in London in 1971. He is the eldest son of Australian-born American media mogul Rupert Murdoch and his second wife, Scottish journalist and author Anna Murdoch Mann . He grew up in New York City , where his father owned the New York Post . He spent his school days in Colorado , New York City and Massachusetts , where he attended private schools. In 1989 Rupert Murdoch brought the then 18-year-old Lachlan Murdoch to Australia for professional reasons in order to train Lachlan for three months with the Daily Mirror . In 1994 he graduated from Princeton University with a bachelor's degree in philosophy .

At the age of 22, Murdoch was named general manager of Queensland Newspapers, the publisher of The Courier-Mail in Brisbane . A year later he became editor of Australia's first national newspaper, The Australian . In 1995 he was named Deputy CEO of News Limited and in 1996 Executive Director of News Corporation . At the same time, Murdoch invested in various media companies, including the start-up One.Tel , which later collapsed. He also made investments in the advertising company REA Group and the Australian National Rugby League .

In July 2005, 33-year-old Murdoch unexpectedly resigned as an executive at News Corporation. The unexplained parting seemed to dash the hopes of News Corporation CEO Rupert Murdoch that his son would one day take over the position of CEO of the global media empire. These include the 21st Century Fox film studio , the Fox television network, several satellite channels and newspapers in the UK, Australia and the United States.

In 2005 Murdoch founded the private investment company Illyria Pty Ltd., which developed a diverse mix of investments. The company participated in the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket team , Rajasthan Royals , the online DVD rental company Quickflix , the toy marketer Funtastic and the digital media company Destra . In November 2009, Murdoch acquired 50% of Nova Entertainment through Illyria and took over the chairmanship. In September 2012, Illyria acquired the remainder of the shares it did not already own.

In March 2014, Murdoch became the non-executive co-chairman of News Corp. and 21st Century Fox, which was considered succession planning for the Murdoch media empire. In June 2015, he was named Executive Chairman of 21st Century Fox. Following the acquisition of Fox by Disney in March 2019, Murdoch was named Chairman and CEO of Fox Corporation.

Personal

Murdoch married Australian model Sarah O'Hare in 1999 . They have two sons and a daughter together.

He is considered a fan of the sport of rugby . In contrast to his father, he is politically less conservative .
