Ladislau Konya

Ladislau Konya (born August 4, 1934 in Transylvania ) is a German-Hungarian opera singer ( baritone ).

Life

Ladislau Konya is a graduate of the Ciprian Porumbescu Conservatory in Bucharest. As a student, he won several international singing competitions:

  • 1st prize in the singing competition in Geneva, Switzerland (1957)
  • 1st prize in the singing competition in Toulouse, France (1957)
  • 1st prize in the international competition in Moscow, USSR (1957)
  • 1st prize of the Georghe Enescu competition in Bucharest (1961)

In 1958 Ladislau Konya made his debut in the title role of Eugene Onegin at the Bucharest State Opera . In 1959 he was engaged as one of the first foreign opera singers to go to Moscow at the Bolshoi Theater . He made his debut in his star role as Onegin and was invited to guest performances at the Bolshoi. This was followed by productions by the Troubadour , the Traviata and the Aida .

In 1962 he gave a solo concert in the hall of the Wiener Musikverein . The program included songs by Schubert and Schumann, as well as arias by Mozart, Verdi and Giordano. In 1965 he was awarded the title “Artist Emerit” in Romania. Engagements at international opera stages in Paris, Brussels, Vienna, Turin, Prague, Berlin and London followed.

1968–1969 Ladislau Konya was a soloist at the Zurich Opera House in Aida with the soprano Felicia Weathers (conductor: Nello Santi), Madama Butterfly and Il tabarro , and as sheriff in the Zurich premiere of Puccini's La fanciulla del West .

From 1970 Ladislau Konya was a permanent member of the Frankfurt Opera House . He celebrated success in various roles, v. a. of the dramatic bel canto. The performances were partly productions by the director Hans Neuenfels , z. B. Don Giovanni (title role), The Troubadour , Rigoletto , Die Macht des Schicksals , Don Carlos (Rodrigo) with bass Nicolai Ghiaurov , Madama Butterfly with Éva Marton , La traviata with Jose Carreras and Ileana Cotrubaș or Renata Scotto , Tosca (Scarpia ) with Éva Marton and Plácido Domingo .

In 1973 he had six performances in a row at the London Royal Opera House Covent Garden as Conte di Luna in the Troubadour under Charles Mackerras (conductor) with Martina Arroyo , Fiorenza Cossotto and Carlo Cossutta , directed by Franco Zeffirelli .

At a gala performance for the opening of the New Tyne Theater in London Konya sang Scarpia in another Tosca production with Plácido Domingo.
