The Laja ( Russian Лая ) is a right tributary of the Pechora in the Komi Republic and in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug in northwestern Russia .
The 332 km long Laja has its origins in Lajato Lake in the Bolschesemelskaja Tundra in Nenets Autonomous District of the. It flows mainly in a southerly direction into the Komi Republic. It takes in its most important tributary, the Jurjacha , from the right. Eventually she meets the Pechora flowing west. The Laja drains an area of 9530 km². It is covered by a layer of ice between October and May. The spring floods in May and June account for a large part of the annual runoff. The mean discharge at the Mischwan gauge , 171 km above the estuary, is 50 m³ / s.
