Laki ( Bulgarian : Лъки) is a city and administrative center of a municipality of the same name in Plovdiv Oblast in southern Bulgaria . The city with 1971 inhabitants (2016) is located 54 km south of Plovdiv and 20 km south of Asenovgrad in the Rhodope Mountains . Manastir is part of Laki, at 1,430 meters the highest settlement on the Balkan Peninsula .
The Jugowska , a tributary of the Chaya, flows through the city of Laki . The factories around the city of Laki in particular pollute the Chaya river with lead and zinc .
The highway A1 runs north, 45 km away.
The city has given its name to Laki Peak , a mountain in Graham Land in Antarctica , since 2011 .
