Lambert Konschegg

Lambert Konschegg (born June 1, 1912 in Graz , † October 9, 1977 near Břeclav (Lundenburg, ČSSR)) was an officer in the German Air Force in World War II . After the war, Konschegg was CEO of Austrian Airlines (AUA) and President of the World Association of Airlines IATA .

Life

Lambert Konschegg, until the nobility in 1919 Lambert Konschegg von Pramburg , was born in a family with an Austro-Hungarian civil service and military tradition. His ancestor of the same name, Lambert Konschegg von Pramburg , was promoted to major general in the Austro-Hungarian army in 1910 and was appointed (titular) field marshal lieutenant in 1913 after his retirement . Lambert Konschegg completed a law degree at the University of Innsbruck , where he also received his doctorate. At the beginning of the Second World War he was a soldier in the Air Force , in 1940 he was a first lieutenant and technical officer in Kampfgeschwader 1 . On February 28, 1945 he was awarded the Knight's Cross as commander of III./KG 40 .

After the war he flew for six years as a pilot for Swissair , and then helped to build the Austrian airline AUA, which was founded in 1957. In 1962 Lambert Konschegg and Helmut Lerider were appointed managing directors of AUA. At the same time, Franz Grubhofer (1914–1970) was appointed Chairman of the AUA Supervisory Board. Grubhofer was an ÖVP member of the National Council from 1945-62 . In the following five years (until 1968), AUA tripled its passenger and sales figures under the leadership of Konschegg. At the end of 1965 Konschegg was elected President of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for one year at the annual meeting in Vienna .

On November 21, 1968 Konschegg, who was considered an ÖVP candidate in the proportional representation agreement for the AUA, was dismissed from the AUA together with his colleague Engelbert Heidrich ( SPÖ ). After his retirement, Konschegg worked as an independent export merchant. In 1977 Konschegg had a fatal accident in a traffic accident. He was married and had two children.
