Lament is a four-piece alternative rock band from Leipzig . She has been under contract with Universal Music since mid-2009 .

Band history

Lament was founded in 1996 by the three Bad Lausickers Sebastian Söllner, Dirk Rotzsch and Marco Polster. The name is based on a song by The Cure , which strongly influenced the band at the time. She quickly created pieces for her first demo album The Test Tracks , including Last Dance of Summer , Away and Treachery .

Just one year after it was founded, lament was invited to the seventh Wave-Gotik-Treffen , where the band played their biggest gig to date in Haus Leipzig . In 1998 the second demo album The Stranger was created . Sebastian Söllner, the musical head of the band, recorded all the songs in the rehearsal room at the time. The plays grew darker and more melancholy.

At the end of 1999 the Nerchauer Christian Friedrich played as a drummer and replaced the drum computer from now on . This made the live sound more compact and made the songs appear more lively. Lament played at several festivals with bands such as last instance , Die Art and Keimzeit .

After performing at the ninth Wave-Gotik-Treffen , Marco Polster left the group for personal reasons. From 2003 Markus Georgi took over the bass. It was at this time that the ideas for songs like Winter , Me , Cornered Between Lines , Time Off and Breathe emerged . At the end of 2003 the group decided to go into the studio and record the EP Last Dance of Summer . After the “Black Christmas” concert, which was recorded and later brought to the fans as a bootleg , Markus Georgi left the band and Christian Kühne took over bass.

With this line-up, the band competed in the largest NewComer competition in the world in 2006: Emergenza . After Lament had won all local eliminations, they went to the north-east finals in Berlin as the best band in Saxony to compete against all the bands from Berlin and the best band from Hamburg. The jury decided in favor of lament and sent you as the winner to the world finals, which take place every year as part of the Taubertal Festival . In addition to the 15th place there, lament achieved good results within the individual ratings, such as the third best song, the third best singer and the best acoustic guitarist.

In 2007 the album Breathe was released (at Dunefish, Berlin), which Lament produced together with Joachim Theiss ( sound engineer ). It was published on April 28, 2007 in the UT Connewitz (Leipzig) with six cameras tracked and with the help of a 25-person crew and around 500 fans. A 90-minute concert DVD was created under the direction of Sven Kilian, which also contains the music video You , which was produced shortly afterwards . In this Lament received female support from Kiki (Kristin Siegel), the singer of the band Yoomiii .

Dirk Rotzsch left Lament in mid-2007. This was followed by the first tour of Germany as support for the Dresden band last instance and further support engagements for Phillip Boa , Jennifer Rostock and White Lies (UK). In late 2008, Lament competed with you at MTV -Rookie as one and won by more than 700 participants. In 2009 lament signed a record deal with Universal Music in Berlin . On October 30, 2009 the single Last Dance of Summer was released on the new label .
