During the current season, VfL Schwenningen , SSV Reutlingen , SG Friedrichshafen and SpVgg Biberach moved from the regional league to the newly formed Oberliga Südwest in January 1947 . The remaining clubs continued to play in the regional league. The two group winners SpVgg Trossingen and SV 04 Laupheim also rose in the 1947/48 season in the Oberliga Südwest. As the only club, SV Birkenfeld rose from the national league at the end of the season.
background
After the Second World War , separate gaming operations were carried out in North and South Württemberg until 1950 because they belonged to different occupation zones . While North Württemberg was in the American zone of occupation and belonged to the South German Football Association , South Württemberg was in the French zone of occupation and until 1950 belonged to the South West German Football Association .

Qualification for the Oberliga Südwest
As a criterion for admission for the new Oberliga Südwest, which started playing in January 1947, the table status in the two national league groups on December 31, 1946 was used. From the group north, the table leader VfL Schwenningen and the table third SSV Reutlingen qualified because the table runner-up SpVgg Trossingen could not meet the requirements. In the south group there were elimination matches between the top four teams:
- SV Lindenberg and SG Friedrichshafen parted 1: 1. Since Lindenberg did not play a replay, Friedrichshafen rose.
- SpVgg Biberach beat SV 04 Laupheim 6: 1 and rose to the top division.
