action

The two Americans Alicia and Daniel are newly engaged and go on a hiking tour through the remote Caucasian mountains of Georgia together with their best friend Chris . One morning the three of them meet the park ranger Devi, who lets them pose for a photo in front of the idyllic landscape. Chris steps on a land mine hidden in the grass with his foot . Devi panicked and warns Chris not to take his foot off the mine, otherwise it would detonate. Devi then leaves the trio to get help as there is no cell phone reception in the remote wilderness. While Devi is watching the scene from a distant hill, Daniel receives a call on his cell phone. In the course of that bogus phone call, he calls Alicia a whore because - it turns out - she slept with Chris. Daniel explains to Alicia and Chris that he is behind the action and wants to get revenge on them. Alicia tries desperately to bring Daniel to his senses and to help Chris. Daniel leaves both of them to their fate and disappears with Devi, who was privy to the plan.

While Alicia tries to find a way to free Chris unscathed from the landmine, the hunter Ilya comes by with his dog. At first he thinks the situation is staged and doesn't believe the two of them. After Alicia and Chris tell him their story, Ilya realizes the hopeless situation the two find themselves in. Ilya uses this plight for sadistic games in which Alicia has to undress for his help. The two realize that Ilya is shamelessly taking advantage of the situation, whereupon Alicia tries to escape. However, her attempt to escape fails, whereupon she is raped by Ilya. Chris, who is still standing on the mine, was able to grab Ilya's shotgun and try to shoot him. However, Daniel is attacked by Ilya's dog and a shot is fired. Chris finds himself on the ground next to the still intact mine. Ilya explains to him that their boyfriend has set them up because mines detonate immediately when the detonator is triggered . In the end, Chris lies crying next to the dead Alicia.

A short time later, Chris travels alone through Georgia and asks for directions in a small town. Tanya and her daughter Lika offer him their help and invite him to dinner. While the three are at the table, Tanya's husband Ilya comes home. Ilya is visibly surprised by Chris, knowing full well why Chris has visited his family. Ilya manages by offering Chris to take a piece in his car. Ilya and Chris arrange a meeting point in private, where they want to settle their outstanding accounts like men. This does not happen, however, because Chris injures Ilya's dog and gains access to the family home with him again. While Tanya, Lika and Chris take care of the injured dog, Ilya comes in. Chris shoots Ilya in both thighs with a revolver . Ilya lies motionless on the sofa and Lika has to tie up her mother. Like Ilya before, Chris uses the situation for sadistic games with Lika. The parents pleadingly and desperately try to bring Chris to his senses. The game ends in Russian Roulette , in which Lika dies from a headshot. In the end, Chris sits crying in a corner of the living room.

criticism

Landmine Goes Click received rather negative reviews. At Metacritic , the film received 35 out of 100 points from four reviews. Rotten Tomatoes got 40% positive reviews out of a total of five reviews. The Internet Movie Database scores 6.2 out of 10.

Katie Walsh of the Los Angeles Times criticized that the film could have become a captivating thriller, but that it is a hateful and arduous drama. Landmine Goes Click shows the nihilistic side of humanity, in which women become objects of sexual conquest and men become violent, vengeful psychopaths.

For Frank Scheck from the Hollywood Reporter , the plot was staged too comfortably, which means that the actors improvised a lot and thus made some scenes longer than necessary. Nevertheless, he praised the acting performance of Sterling Knight , Spencer Locke and the Georgian actor Kote Tolordava, who play their roles convincingly.

For Dirk Hoffmann from Zelluloid.de, Landmine Goes Click is an "insider tip [...] for genre fans" and wrote that the film "despite its length is technically soundly implemented and convincingly [...] played".
