Historical meaning
The South Tyrolean People's Party was able to increase again to over 60%. New in parliament were the Independent Party and the New Left / Nuova Sinistra, each with one mandate. The Partito Comunista Italiano was also able to record gains, while the socialist to social democratic parties (PSI, PSDI, SFP and SPS) had losses and got a total of 3 seats (1973: 6). With the entry of the Party of Independents, another German-speaking liberal-conservative, both of which later became right-wing conservative , was able to enter the state parliament alongside the SVP for the first time since 1964 .
