Larkin Poe is an American roots rock - band from Atlanta , Georgia . The founders of the band are the sisters Rebecca Lovell (born January 30, 1991 ) and Megan Lovell (born May 12, 1989 ). Due to the musical style, which is based on Southern Rock , Blues and Folk and is characterized by the use of strong guitar riffs and slide guitars , they were also referred to as the "little sisters of the Allman Brothers ".
Since its inception, Larkin Poe has also appeared as a backing band for a number of other bands and musicians, including Elvis Costello , Keith Urban and Conor Oberst .
history
In 2005, Rebecca and Megan started their careers with the acoustic band Lovell Sisters , which also included their older sister Jessica. After two self-released albums, the band performed successfully at various events for four years. In 2009, however , the Lovell Sisters announced their liquidation. In 2010, Rebecca and Megan formed the band Larkin Poe .
In 2013 they were signed to the RH Music label , after which work on their first album KIN began. They have since released three other studio albums ( Reskinned , Peach, and Venom & Faith ). The band released their third album Peach themselves and was nominated for Best Emerging Artist by the Blues Foundation . The fourth album Venom & Faith , which was released on November 9, 2018, reached first place on the Billboard charts in the blues category that same month . On November 20, 2019, the album received a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album .
The inspiration for the band's name was Larkin Poe, a great-great-great-grandfather of the Lovells. He was also a cousin of the legendary writer Edgar Allan Poe .
