Heribert Gauly

Heribert Heinrich Gauly (born October 19, 1928 in Worms ; † December 2, 1995 in Mainz ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian and professor emeritus of pastoral theology .

Life

He studied in Mainz from 1948 to 1954 and was chaplain in Planig and Mainz-Weisenau in 1955 . From 1955 he was pastor at Marienhaus Neustadt and at the Ernst Ludwig Heilstätte in Sandbach . On May 1, 1960 he became assistant and tutor at the seminary in Mainz . After completing his doctorate on January 21, 1961 at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz with the dissertation: (The simple eye. The teaching of P. Jeremias Drexel SJ. On the »recta intentio«) he was given a teaching position on December 8, 1961 for pastoral psychology and sociology at the seminary in Mainz. In 1967 and 1968 he received lectures in pastoral theology on behalf of Auxiliary Bishop Josef Maria Reuss at the Mainz seminary. After completing his habilitation on December 18, 1969 at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg with the habilitation thesis » Knowledge of Guilt. The Significance of the Post-Tridentine Doctrine of the Subjective Conditions of Mortal Sin for Pastoral Theology «he became a private lecturer in Würzburg in 1970 and worked in the Episcopal Ordinariate in Mainz for structure and pastoral care planning. On November 1, 1972, he was appointed to the professorship for pastoral theology at the newly established chair for general pastoral theology, pastoral psychology and pastoral sociology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. In 1976/1977 he was dean of the Catholic theology department. He retired in 1986. He was the author of several publications.
