Josef Maria Reuss (born December 13, 1906 in Limburg an der Lahn , † June 5, 1985 in Mainz ) was a Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in Mainz .

After studying Catholic theology in Freiburg im Breisgau and Innsbruck , Reuss was ordained a priest in 1930 . In 1934 he was promoted to Dr. theol. PhD .

From 1940 Reuss was a war pastor in Russia, after amputations on both feet in Russia he worked as a prison chaplain in the military prison of Fresnes (Val-de-Marne) near Paris. In 1945 he was appointed Regens of the Mainz seminary and professor of pastoral theology .

Pope Pius XII appointed him titular bishop of Sinope and auxiliary bishop in Mainz in 1954 .
