Lawrence Gilliard Jr.
Lawrence "Larry" Gilliard, Jr. (Born September 22, 1971 in New York City , New York , United States ) is an American actor who has appeared in film, television and theater. His best-known role is that of drug dealer D'Angelo Barksdale in the HBO drama The Wire .
Life
At the age of seven, he and his family moved to Baltimore , Maryland. He studied classical music at the Baltimore School for the Arts and the Juilliard School , but decided to become an actor. He had his first leading role in the Independence film Straight Out of Brooklyn . He learned acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and the Stella Adler Conservatory .
He has appeared as a gangster in the television series Law & Order , Homicide , New York Undercover and CSI: NY, among others. He had a recurring role in the HBO crime series The Wire as the drug dealer D'Angelo Barksdale . He has also appeared in films such as Waterboy and a member of the Dead Rabbits in Gangs of New York . From 2013 to 2014 he played Bob Stookey in The Walking Dead .
In addition to his film and television roles, he can also be seen as a stage actor. Among other things, he received positive reviews for his role in Topdog / Underdog .
He is married to actress Michelle Paress .
