Larry Jost

Lawrence "Larry" O. Jost (born February 22, 1921 in Detroit , Michigan , † October 28, 2001 in Kelseyville , California ) was an American sound engineer .

Life

Jost began his career in 1958 with the drama They're All Damned , but without any credits in the credits. Between 1959 and 1961 he worked on 59 episodes of the western series Thousand Miles of Dust , but then turned back to film. In addition to some B-movie productions, he was also increasingly involved in major Hollywood films. In 1974 he was nominated twice for an Oscar in the Best Sound category; for The Time of Trials and The Day of the Dolphin . The following year came his third and final Oscar nomination for Chinatown. In 1977 he was nominated for the first time for the BAFTA Film Award in the category Best Sound , but went empty-handed both for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and the following year for New York, New York . Jost ended his film career in 1985. He died in 2001 at the age of 80.
