Lawrence "Larry" Rucchin (born May 12, 1967 in Thunder Bay , Ontario ; † June 20, 2002 in Hamilton , Ontario) was an Italian - Canadian ice hockey player who worked for the Düsseldorfer EG and in his active time from 1988 to 2002 Berlin Capitals has played in the German Ice Hockey League . His brother Steve was also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Larry Rucchin began his career as a hockey player in the team at Wilfrid Laurier University , for which he was active from 1988 to 1992 and with which he won the OUAA championship in 1989 and 1990, respectively. The defender then received a contract with HC Devils Milano from the Italian A1 series , for which he was on the ice for the following three years. There he temporarily formed a defender pair with Michael De Angelis , who was also an Italian international. With the Lombards he won the national championship in 1993 and 1994 . For the 1997/98 season he received a contract with the Düsseldorfer EG from the German Ice Hockey League , which he left after only one year when they had to withdraw from the DEL for financial reasons.

From 1998 to 2000 Rucchin played for the Berlin Capitals in the DEL. As in his cancer was diagnosed, he had to pause with ice hockey, but ran into the 2001/02 season once again for the amateur team of the Dundas Real McCoy's in the Ontario Hockey Association on. He died on June 20, 2002 at the age of 35 after a long illness in his native Ontario.

International

For Italy , Rucchin took part in the 1997 , 1998 , 1999 and 2001 World Championships , as well as the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano .
