Lars Molin (born May 7, 1956 in Örnsköldsvik ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player and current coach , who played for the Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League from 1973 to 1991 .
Career
Lars Molin began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of MoDo AIK , for whose professional team he was active in the top Swedish league from 1973 to 1981 - initially in Division 1 and from the 1975/76 season in its successor Elitserien . With MoDo AIK he was Swedish champion in the 1978/79 season . In 1980 he was elected to the Swedish All-Star Team. On May 18, 1981, the center received a free agent contract with the Vancouver Canucks , for which he stood for three years as a regular in the National Hockey League on the ice. He scored 109 points scorer in a total of 191 games, including 35 goals. Then he returned to his hometown club MoDo AIK, which in the meantime had been relegated to Division 1, which is now second class. With his team he immediately achieved promotion to the Elitserien, in which he was active for MODO until 1988. Most recently, the long-time national player was under contract with second division Örebro HK from 1988 to 1991 , before ending his active career at the age of 33.
In the 1998/99 season Molin took his first job as head coach when he was in charge of IF Björklöven in the Elitserien. At the U20 Junior World Championship in 2000 , he coached the Swedish national junior team. The 2002/03 season he spent as a coach with the Storhamar Dragons in the Norwegian GET league . From 2005 to 2007 the Swede was behind the gang at SHC Fassa in the Italian A1 series . In the 2007/08 season he looked after the U20 juniors of his former club IF Björklöven for the first time, which he has looked after again since 2010.
International
For Sweden , Molin took part in the junior division only in the 1976 World Junior Championship . In the senior sector, he took part in the world championships in 1981 , 1985 and 1987 . In 1981 he was also in his country's squad at the Canada Cup and the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid and in 1988 in Calgary . At both Winter Olympics he won bronze medals with Sweden. His international career was crowned in 1987 when he won the world title. He also won the silver medal with his team at the World Cup in 1981.
