Lars Walther (born October 15, 1965 ) is a Danish handball trainer and former player.
Career
Player career
Walther played for the Portuguese first division club Sporting Lisbon until 1988 , with whom he won the Portuguese Cup in 1988. He then ran four seasons for the Danish first division club Brønderslev and two seasons for the first division club Aalborg. He then joined the Portuguese club CS Marítimo. From 1996 Walther ran for two years for the German second division club HSG Nordhorn . After his time in Nordhorn, Walther went hunting for goals for the Icelandic club KA Akureyri . He later joined the German regional division HSV Emden. After Walther sustained a serious shoulder injury in the preparation for the 2000/01 season, he ended his active career.
Coaching career
Walther began his coaching career with the Danish first division club Virum-Sorgefri HK , which he was in charge of in the 2001/02 season. He then coached the Danish second division club ROAR Roskilde. After Walther trained the second team of SG Flensburg-Handewitt in the 2004/05 season , he took over the Slovenian first division club RK Velenje . In November 2006 he moved to the German Bundesliga club Eintracht Hildesheim . From September 2007 Walther coached the Italian club AS Conversano. For the 2008/09 season he took over the second division TV Emsdetten . In 2010 he joined the Polish first division club Wisła Płock . Wisła Płock won the Polish championship in 2011 under his leadership. In March 2013, his work at Wisła Płock ended. From the 2014/15 season he coached the Romanian first division club HC Minaur Baia Mare . In 2015 Baia Mare won the Romanian championship. In October 2015 he resigned from his coaching position in Baia Mare. In December 2015 he took over the Swiss first division club Kadetten Schaffhausen . Under his leadership, Schaffhausen won the Swiss championship and the SHV Cup in 2016 . He was released in early February 2017. In the 2017/18 season he coached the Portuguese first division club FC Porto . Since the summer of 2018 he has been training the Danish first division club Ribe-Esbjerg HH . For the 2020/21 season he will take over the coaching position of the Polish club KS Azoty-Puławy .
