Latheron ( Scottish Gaelic Latheran ) is a small settlement in the Scottish Council Area Highland . It is located in the traditional county of Caithness about 25 km northeast of Helmsdale and southwest of Wick on the north coast of the Moray Firth . Latheron is the capital of the parish of the same name .

The A9, the most important trunk road in the Scottish Highlands , runs through Latheron . This bends there to the north in the direction of Thurso . The A99 begins at this junction and, following the coast via Wick, finally reaches John o 'Groats .
