Laundos (also Laúndos ) is a municipality in northern Portugal .

history

Finds such as the tumuli (here Mamoas ) Mamoa de Monte Redondo or the Mamoa da Estrada in the village of Águas Férreas prove a prehistoric settlement. The settlement of Castro de Laundos from the 2nd century BC. BC was an outpost of the Cividade de Terroso , a settlement of the Castro culture in Terroso .

The first documented mention of today's place comes from the year 1033 as Montis Lanutus . In the episcopal registers of Braga , the place was noted in the 11th century as the seat of the municipality of Sancto Micael de Lanutus .

Until the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1822 , Laúndos was a municipality in the district of Barcelos , until it was incorporated into Póvoa de Varzim in 1836.

Economy and Transport

The community is traditionally characterized by agriculture. The cultivation of maize should be mentioned in particular . A number of windmills existed here, only five of which are left on the Monte S.Félix hill, and only one is kept in working order. Some have been converted into holiday homes, and there is also a four-star hotel. Tourism, especially as rural tourism, plays a corresponding role in the local economy.

The municipality has an industrial park with the Parque industrial de Laúndos . Among the industrial companies in the municipality, companies in the building trade and marble processing are important. The handicrafts should also be mentioned, with the traditional production of blankets, carpets and rags.

An airfield was created in the municipality of Laúndos, especially for sport aircraft and excursion pilots. The Aeroclube do Norte flight club is based here.

Since 1878 and until the end of the Linha da Póvoa section in 1995, the municipality was connected to the country's rail network with two stops.

The A28 motorway passes the municipality, the next junction is that of Estela .
