Laura Benz (born August 25, 1992 in Kloten ) is a Swiss national ice hockey player who has been under contract with the ZSC Lions in the Swiss Women's Hockey League A since 2009 . Her twin sister Sara is also a hockey player.

Career

The twin sisters Laura and Sara Benz have been doing ice sports together since they were four: “Our parents first sent us to figure skating. But we would much rather wear great equipment like our ice hockey brother. " The two learned ice hockey at EHC Winterthur , went through its male junior teams and between 2007 and 2009 played for the U17 juniors of the club in the highest junior league in Switzerland (top novices). At the Mountain Cup in February 2008 Laura Benz made her debut for the Swiss national ice hockey team for women . A year later, during the play-offs of performance class A, she came to her first assignments for the women's team of the ZSC Lions .

In the same year the sisters completed their first women's world championship after playing for the U18 national team from 2008. In 2010 Laura Benz took part in the Winter Olympics in Vancouver with her sister . A few months later, the Benz twins with the U18 national team made it back to the top division at the 2010 World Cup in Division I , Laura Benz contributed 5 goals and 2 assists to this success, while her sister Sara was the top scorer of the tournament and was named the best striker.

After graduating from high school, Laura and Laura Benz received offers for scholarships from a US college. Due to the higher level of education in Switzerland and the necessary obligation to spend four years overseas, they decided to study in Switzerland instead. While Laura began studying medicine, Sara Benz trained as a lawyer.

In 2011 the sisters won their first championship title with the ZSC Lions , at the same time it was the first championship title of the ZSC Lions women. In 2012 and 2013 further championship titles followed with the Lions. In 2014 they took part in the Winter Olympics in Sochi , where they won the bronze medal with the national team.

In 2016 Laura won another Swiss championship with the women of the ZSC Lions.
