Laura Ruhnke (* 25. December 1983 in Biel / Bienne ) is a former Swiss - Canadian Hockey player that last for the ZSC Lions in the highest women's league Switzerland, the performance class A , played. She has had Swiss citizenship since 2000. From 2005 she played for the Swiss women's national team before ending her career in 2010. Her father, Kent, is an ice hockey coach.

Career

Laura Ruhnke played for the Marlets , the ice hockey team at McGill University , between 2002 and 2005 . In order to better prepare for the 2006 Winter Olympics , she interrupted her studies in economics and biology and returned to Switzerland in 2005. There she played for the HCL Ladies Team and won the LKA championship with this team in 2006.

She then returned to Canada and completed her studies. In December 2006 she came back to Switzerland and played again for the HCL Ladies and won another championship with them.

After this success she got an offer from the newcomer ZSC Lions , which she accepted. She played for the ZSC Lions Women until 2010 before ending her career.

International

From 2005 Ruhnke played for the Swiss women's national team and took part in four world championships and the 2006 Winter Olympics.

In February 2010, she resigned from the national team after not being nominated for the 2010 Winter Olympics .
