The bullfighters , also Dick and Doof as bullfighters as well as bullfighters against their will , ( The Bullfighters ) is an American film and a mistake comedy by 20th Century Fox from 1945 with the comedian duo Laurel and Hardy - as their penultimate feature film and last American feature film Stan Laurel in a dual role.
action
Oliver and Stanley travel to Mexico City as detectives to arrest a bandit. The prominent bullfighter Don Sebastian from Barcelona, who looks very similar to Stanley, is also expected in her hotel . Its promoter Richard K. Muldoon is also present. Eight years earlier, he was heavily incriminated in a trial by the witnesses Stanley and Oliver and sentenced to 20 years in prison. This is shown in a flashback. However, after five years he was found innocent and released. Now he recognizes his witnesses in a portrait of Don Sebastian and swears to peel off the skin of him and Oliver alive if they meet. The two find out about it and from now on do everything possible not to meet Muldoon. Before that, however, they meet “gangster hits”, the one they are looking for. However, the attempt to arrest her fails. Meanwhile it is known that Don Sebastian will arrive later due to pass problems. Muldoon's partner's suggestion, Hartfuß, that Stanley should replace him until then, is accepted under the pressure of otherwise being confronted with Muldoon. Finally, already dressed as a bullfighter, he is preparing for his appearance in the arena cabin when Don Sebastian arrives at the arena. It is he who fights the bullfight. When Stanley also appears inside the arena, the deception becomes apparent and the Muldoon present realizes what is being played. At first Stanley and Oliver escape in the turmoil, but shortly afterwards in the hotel they are caught by Muldoon and he follows up on his threat. The grotesque final scene shows Stanley and Oliver as skeletons with faces and hats and Oliver blames Stanley for having "made him another nice soup".
German versions
- The film was dubbed German for the first time in 1950 by Kaudel Film under the title Bullfighter Against Will . Walter Bluhm spoke to Stan and Arno Paulsen lent his voice to Ollie.
- For the ZDF series Lachen Sie mit Stan and Ollie , a second version was created in 1978 for beta technology with the title bullfighters . The script and dialogue direction were in the hands of Wolfgang Schick . Walter Blum spoke to Stan again and Michael Habeck took over Ollie. This version is the only one available and also served as the basis for the DVD release.
Others

Reviews
Like many of their late works after the end of their collaboration with the Hal Roach studios, this film was also received significantly more negatively by the critics - the lexicon of international films found : “The penultimate film by the comedian duo Laurel & Hardy, also one of the weakest. "
