Lauren Wildbolz (born March 17, 1981 in Zurich ) is a Swiss entrepreneur, cook and cookbook author for vegan nutrition . As an artist, she addressed the waste of food .

Life

Lauren Wildbolz is the daughter of the fashion photographer Jost Wildbolz and niece of the actor Klaus Wildbolz . Her mother was a model . At the age of 19 she started modeling herself. After passing the exam for the preliminary course at the School of Design (today: Zurich University of the Arts ), she traveled to various countries around the world as a diving instructor. After five years abroad, she continued her art studies in Switzerland, graduating from the Zurich University of the Arts in 2013 with a bachelor's degree and in 2015 with a master's degree in fine arts . During her studies, she dealt intensively with food. Lauren Wildbolz has a daughter, born in 2014.

Lauren Wildbolz has been giving up meat since she was 14. At the age of 27, she switched from a vegetarian to a vegan way of life, which for her includes not using any products of animal origin in clothing and care products. She cites the mass production of meat, milk or leather as the reason for this. She also dealt with the political and ethical aspects of the food industry and food waste.

Act

In 2010 she opened the vegan kitchen and bakery restaurant , which is considered one of the first vegan restaurants in Zurich. After Wildbolz was unable to achieve the desired expansion due to a lack of financial partners, after nine months she handed the lease over to a company that manufactures vegan products and opened a vegan gelateria on the premises . She continued her studies and at the same time worked as a course instructor for vegan nutrition at the Migros Club School . She has been running her catering company Vegan Kitchen and her own cooking courses since 2012 .

In order to draw attention to the waste of food, Lauren Wildbolz initiated an art project under the slogan Good food for you for free in June 2013 as part of her bachelor thesis, which recreated a pop-up restaurant with typical gastronomic elements . For two weeks she cooked free meals at Sihlquai in Zurich from food donated by retailers or recovered from waste . She continued this idea together with other students at the Zurich Art Academy. With this project, Lauren Wildbolz wanted to promote the appreciation and resource-saving use of food. For her master's thesis project, Dreckskekse , she tested how to bake with compost earth. She had received a special permit for this, since food made from earth is actually prohibited in Switzerland.

In 2014, her first cookbook Vegan Kitchen and Friends was published in German and French. Her second cookbook with the title Vegan Love (2017) deals with the topic of vegan nutrition in pregnancy and in small children.

Media reception

Through media reports since 2011 and with appearances on television and radio , she became known beyond the vegan scene. In 2014 she was invited to Kurt Aeschbacher's TV live show and in the same year she worked on the Swiss documentary Vegan - von Menschen und other animals . The Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) portrayed them in their Swiss Visionaries series and Schweizer Illustrierte in a four-page report. In February 2015, she was in the 3sat telecast vegan all or what? interviewed. The Swiss television ( SRF ) produced a program on the Kulturplatz in the series Das Element Erde about Lauren Wildbolz and her Dreckskekse project , which was also broadcast on 3sat. In 2015 she was a participant in a panel discussion by the NZZ on the subject of cult around our food .
