Laurent Boudouani (born December 29, 1966 in Sallanches , Haute-Savoie , France ) is a former French boxer. As an amateur, he won the welterweight silver medal at the 1988 Olympics . In the professional field, he was two-time EBU European light middleweight champion and also fought for the WBA world title in this weight class , which he was able to defend four times.

Amateur career

Boudouani was bronze medalist of the Junior World Championship in 1983 and quarter-finalist of the Junior European Championship in 1984. At the World Championships in 1986 , he was eliminated in the quarter-finals, in the fight for a medal spot, against Kenneth Gould . In addition, he lost in the first fight of the European Championships in 1987 against Vasily Schischow .

At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 he won the silver medal after he had prevailed against Imre Bácskai, Darren Obah, Song Kyung-sup and this time Kenneth Gould and was only defeated in the final against Robert Wangila .

He was also French champion from 1985 to 1988.

Professional career

Laurent Boudouani won his professional debut on April 17, 1989. He won 15 fights in a row prematurely, before he lost himself prematurely to Gilbert Baptist in July 1991. After six consecutive wins, five of them prematurely, he boxed on November 29, 1992 for the EBU European Light Middleweight Championship and won by knockout in the third round against Jean-Claude Fontana. He then defended the title by knockout against Romolo Casamonica and by TKO against Andy Till. In his third defense of the title, he surprisingly lost to Bernard Razzano through TKO.

After three early victories, he boxed again on January 3, 1995 for the EBU European title in light middleweight and won by TKO against Javier Castillejo . After five more wins, including two successful title defenses against Patrick Vungbo and in the rematch against Castillejo, he got a world championship chance in the light middleweight division. He boxed it on August 21, 1996 against Julio Vásquez for the WBA title and won by knockout in the fifth round. On March 29, 1997, he defended the title unanimously on points against Carl Daniels . On February 13, 1998 he reached a draw against Guillermo Jones , but won the rematch on May 30, 1998 on points. In his fourth title defense on November 30, 1998, he won by TKO in the ninth round against Terry Norris .

On March 6, 1999, he finally lost his title by a unanimous defeat on points to David Reid and then ended his career.
