Laurent Bernard Marie Ulrich (born September 7, 1951 in Dijon ) is a French Roman Catholic clergyman and since 2008 Archbishop of Lille . Before that he was Archbishop of Chambéry from 2000 to 2008 .

Life

Laurent Ulrich was ordained a priest for the Dijon dijon on December 2, 1979 . In the Archdiocese of Lyon he initially worked as a chaplain, before he worked as an episcopal vicar from 1985 to 1990. In 1990 Ulrich became Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Lyon, a position he held until he was appointed bishop ten years later.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Chambéry on June 6, 2000. The Archbishop of Lyon , Louis-Marie Billé , gave him episcopal ordination on September 10th of the same year; Co- consecrators were Michel Coloni , Bishop of Dijon , and Claude Feidt , Archbishop of Aix . As a motto he chose La joie de croire . In 2007 Ulrich became Vice President of the French Bishops' Conference , which he remained until 2013.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on February 1, 2008 while retaining the personal title of Archbishop Bishop of Lille. With the elevation to the archbishopric on March 30, 2008 he was appointed Archbishop of Lille. He is also Chancellor of the Catholic University in Lille . From 2013 to 2019 Laurent Ulrich was President of the Study and Project Committee in the French Bishops' Conference. He has been President of the Council for Catholic Education since July 2019.
