Lauricocha is a small community in the central Andean highlands of Peru . It is located on the shores of Lake Lauricocha in the Huánuco region . The community consists of half a dozen houses scattered in the sparsely populated area at 3850 m near the village of Antacolpa , around 25 km northwest of Yanahuanca , the capital of the province of Daniel Alcides Carrión .
25 km west of the municipality is the Cerro Yerupajá ( 6634 m ), the highest peak in the Cordillera Huayhuash mountain range and one of the ten highest peaks on the South American continent.
