The Lauter is an approximately five-kilometer-long left tributary of the Blau in Baden-Württemberg , Germany . It is also called "Little Lauter" to delimit the not far away Große Lauter .

Lautertopf

Lautertopf in Lautern

The Lauter rises on the southern edge of the Swabian Alb in Lautern , a district of the city of Blaustein in a karst spring , the Lautertopf. This has an average discharge of 600 liters per second and is one of the strongest springs in the Swabian Alb. Next to the spring is the old pumping station, which supplied several communities with drinking water as early as 1873. The outflowing water flows out of the spring pot in two arms, which unite again after a few meters.

course

The Lauter flows in a south-easterly direction through the five-kilometer-long Kleiner Lautertal . It was designated as a nature reserve in 1995 and, with a size of 280 hectares, is the second largest in the Alb-Danube district .

In Herrlingen , also a district of the city of Blaustein, it flows into the Blau .

natural reserve

Despite its small size, the Lauter is often visited by canoeists . For reasons of bird protection, driving on the Lauter in the nature reserve is generally not permitted. From the nature reserve border at the quarry south of Weidach to Herrlingen, individual drivers are prohibited from driving between March 1st and June 30th each year, exceptions can be granted by the Ulm nature conservation authority. Organized trips, commercial rentals and events require an official permit all year round.
