Lavatory was a Bavarian crossover band from Erlangen that was founded in 1988 and split up around 1996 under the name Rude Awakening .

history

The band was formed in 1988. In December of the same year a first demo appeared under the name Chemical Death . As a result, the group reached a contract with Destiny Records , which in 1990 released the debut album Glasshouse Fools . The album was produced by Harris Johns . In the same year the group played together with Death in Action and Voracious Souls in Nuremberg . In addition, the band went on tour through Europe together with Verbal Abuse . In 1991 she also played with Tankard and Voltage in Höchstadt an der Aisch . Although a studio appointment had already been made for 1991, Destiny Records backed off. The band benefited from the fact that Johns had to instruct an employee and offered a free demo production as a test object for his new colleague. After another demo was released in 1992, the band signed a contract with Massacre Records . After appearances with Pestilence and Assassin , the album To Protect and to Serve was released in 1993 . In 1996 another album called Yes It Hurts was released via TUG Records . After that, the group renamed itself Rude Awakening before disbanding.

style

According to rockdetector.com , the band on Chemical Death plays a mix of metal and hardcore punk . At Glasshouse Fools they moved away from metal and devoted themselves more to hardcore punk. Rock Hard's Frank Trojan stated in his review of Glasshouse Fools that the band played hard, fast and brutal Thrash Metal on it. The music mostly reminds of the pioneers of the genre, mixed with a bit of their own style. He recommended the music for parties and drew a comparison to Tankard, only that Lavatory were "Thrashier". JN from Metal Hammer described the music on the album as "Hardcore Thrash". He is "simply blown around" by the "energies that are released on this album". The singing is real singing and not just " grunts ". The technical level of play on the instruments is decent, if not very varied. In a later issue, Oliver Recker reviewed To Protect and Serve . He described the music as a mixture of hardcore punk and metal and described it as "Tankard meets Nuclear Assault ". However, the quality of the music is not that high. Lavatory could not come close to bands like Sick of It All , Sheer Terror and Cro-Mags , which the band itself indicated as a comparison. In the rock magazine Bang! the band reacted irritably to the Tankard comparison. The comparison with Nuclear Assault is more appropriate. The negative mood of the texts mentioned in the interview was also put into perspective: the world is negative, but in many texts there is also an “optimistic outlook”. In addition, with Surfin 'a Big Butt you have an opposite pole in the program, even if " I'm sure some people think we are too sexist again."
