Around 1784 Marconi and Felice Campi carried out decorative paintings in the sacrament chapel of the cathedral in Mantua, for which his teacher Pozzo provided the iconographic concept. Later he continued his education in Rome and also worked there. From 1791 Marconi stayed in Cesena , where he was responsible for the construction and furnishing of the Chiesa dell'Osservanza. The classicist frescoes , the niche vaulting in the apse , the coffered vault and the false dome also come from him . He then built the Palazzo Ghini (formerly Palazzo Mazzoli) in Via Charimionti in Cesena. He structured its facade with three rows of windows and cornices and emphasized the harmonious symmetry with a central portal. A monumental staircase led to the rooms on the first floor, which Marconi designed with complex elements, which consisted of both illusionistic paintings and a wealth of interior design forms. From 1792 to 1796 he worked on the same street at Palazzo Guerrini Bratti, which was characterized by a spiral staircase leading to a gallery on the second floor and also contained refined interior design details and paintings.

In 1804, after the Napoleonic reforms, he became professor at the Accademia Clementina in Bologna, in 1821 he built the villa “La Rotonda” in the style of the Palladian villas for Duke Guidi di Bagno in Savignano sul Rubicone . In Bologna, a monument is dedicated to him in the columbarium there .

In 1811 Marconi published the work Teoria dell'ombreggiare e metodo di acquerelle in Bologna . Some drawings (architectural designs and fantasies in the style of Giovanni Battista Piranesi ) were owned by the family in Warsaw . A booklet with ornaments (16 lithographic plates) was published in Warsaw in 1862 from his estate . In Cesena, the Piazzale Leandro Marconi is named after the artist.
