Leathürbitch is an American metal and rock band from Portland , Oregon , which was founded in 2015 under the name Leathürwitch .

history

The band was founded in the winter of 2015 by the guitarist Patrick Sandiford and the drummer Meshach Babcöck in the southeast of Portland under the name Leathürwitch, before the name was changed by Sandiford. The band name goes back to the label Leathür Records founded by Mötley Crüe in 1981 . A first demo followed , which contains three songs, through which the group, which had grown into a quartet, was able to increase its popularity. The band then recorded a self-titled five-song EP . The release took place in 2018 on Rapidfire Records ( compact cassette ), High Roller Records ( vinyl record ) and Divebomb Records ( CD ). In addition, performances were held in Oregon, Seattle and Chicago . In May 2018 the group took part in the Legions of Metal festival in Chicago. In 2019, High Roller Records released their debut album Into the Night . The sound carrier was recorded and mixed by Charlie Koryn at The Underworld Studio and mastered by Joel Grind of Toxic Holocaust .

style

According to the band biography on hrrecords.de , the bands were influenced by Glam Metal of the 1980s as well as by bands like Crimson Glory , Kiss , Metal Church , Agent Steel , X Japan , Loudness , Accept , Nazareth and Piledriver . The group finds themselves in line with Keel and Savage Grace . divebombrecords.com states that the band was influenced by Anthrax during the times of Neil Turbin , Savage Grace and Loudness. The band itself describes their music as " Sleaze Speed Metal ". Ludwig Krammer from Rock Hard wrote in his review of Into the Night that it was a mixture of Sleaze Rock and Speed Metal. He particularly noticed the singing, which is often "off the track". Occasionally he also found sonic parallels to the New Wave of British Heavy Metal . In an interview with Krammer in the same issue, Sebastian da Silva stated that the band was founded to emulate bands like Ratt , Mötley Crüe and TNT . Krammer agreed to the statement found on the Internet that the band look like a cross between Spın̈al Tap and Cinderella and the music sounds like a mixture of Raven and Ratt, only that they would look a little rougher than Cinderella. Dominik Rothe from Metal.de assigned the album to Speed Metal, whereby elements from Glam Rock were often used . Overall, however, the vocals are too monotonous and the riffs too simple.
