News in Wittstock

Leben in Wittstock is a documentary film by the DEFA studio for documentaries by Volker Koepp from 1984.

action

This fifth part of the documentary from the Ober trikotagenbetrieb (OTB) in Wittstock / Dosse is the first to be full-length. However, about the first hour consists of looking back at the previous films Girls in Wittstock , Again in Wittstock , Wittstock III and Life and Weaving , supplemented by some previously unpublished scenes from the respective years. In the summer of 1983 the film team returned to the OTB to find out about the changes.

Renate says that she married the man she has lived with for seven years two years ago. They have their son Michael together and Renate believes that they have a good marriage. Edith, too, married the trained bricklayer Burkhard and moved with him into a new apartment in Wittstock. Burkhard is now also working as a knitter at the OTB, which means a big change for him, because before he was always out in the fresh air and now he has to get used to the background noise and the much finer work. Edith is of the opinion that life has become more serious with her work in the last few years, she can usually only switch off half an hour after work. Elsbeth, just called Stupsi by everyone, is married, her husband drives a truck for the slaughterhouse and both have also got a new apartment in Wittstock. Stupsi can switch off immediately when she comes to her two children, who are housed in a day nursery during the day .

This year the OTB is delivering 24,400 jersey days per day and is the best company in the combine . The problem of fluctuation that has existed for years has normalized. In contrast to his predecessors, the director of the company has held this position for five years and has no intention of changing anything. The company's development is far from over and he wants to work on it with the entire workforce. This also includes the chief masters Edith and Renate, as well as Waltraud, who is now the first deputy of the operations director and member of the district council , who are observed in their daily work. Waltraud mentions that she has to adjust to the problems that arise every day, as they are very diverse and the construction work is not yet finished. The problem of honesty among workers and management has not changed for years, there are colleagues who are telling the truth and others are still trying to gloss over everything in order to distract from the real difficulties.

It is now clear to Edith that she will stay with the company for the rest of her working life. Stupsi finally got the windows she wanted at work in 1974.

“... a long-term observation emerged that does not gloss over anything and yet is full of optimism. The fate of three young women is followed, station by station, and their amalgamation with the small town of Brandenburg. "
