Leelanau Peninsula AVA (recognized since March 30, 1982) is a wine-growing region in the US state of Michigan . The area spans the entire administrative area of Leelanau County .

Leelanau County forms a peninsula between Lake Michigan to the west and Grand Traverse Bay to the east. The generally cold climate of the region is moderated by the water masses. Nevertheless, the danger of frost is latent and for 145 days a year the thermometer sinks below freezing point.

The soil consists of sandy , clayey and loamy deposits from ancient glaciers, which rest on a base made of limestone and granite .
