Lego Indiana Jones: The Legendary Adventure

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures ( Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures ) is a video game developed by Traveller's Tales and published by LucasArts in June 2008 based on the LEGO Indiana Jones toy series . The game allows players to playfully reenact moments from the first three Indiana Jones films, but as in the Lego Star Wars franchise , some scenes have also been changed.

Game principle and technology

The game follows the plot of the original Indiana Jones films: Raiders of the Lost Ark , Temple of Doom and the Last Crusade . But the developers modified the plot to adapt the events to 6 game chapters per film. Barnett College, Dr. Jones' Indiana Jones School and The Last Crusade (Marshall College in Raiders of the Lost Ark and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ) is the main hub of the game. Various maps on the walls allow access to the missions. In the various classrooms you can also find unlockable content and options. As soon as the player selects a mission, a cutscene begins showing the part of the film that is being played. Well-known scenes were adapted from the films, such as escaping a rolling boulder, a battle on a rope bridge, and the Holy Grail chosen by Walter Donovan .

Instead of the canisters in Lego Star Wars and Lego Batman , the characters collect treasure chests, which contain artifacts instead of vehicle parts.

There are a total of 85 playable characters, 23 characters are given to the player during the course of the story, 59 characters can be purchased in the in-game library, two custom characters created by the player and the bonus character Han Solo . A few other "hidden" characters can only be played on certain levels. All of the characters featured in the game have their own unique abilities that are required to start new areas in Free Play mode. Lego Indiana Jones allows the player to mix and match pieces and create his own creations such as "Belloq Jones" or "Colonel Toht".

In each level there is a red package that has to be found and thrown into a red or gray mailbox, which is usually hidden somewhere nearby. Usually these packs can only be used with a special character ability the second time the player plays a level. Once the package is in the mailbox, a new skill can be acquired at Barnett College. These skills range from disarming the enemies to 10 times the amount per coin collected.

New features from the Lego Star Wars series have been added to the game, e.g. B. the possibility of the players to influence objects in their environment (bottles, swords, cannons, etc.). The characters can also build vehicles and drive them. The game also includes the fears of the movie characters, when Indiana Jones spot a snake, Willie a spider , Henry Jones Sr. or Elsa a rat, the fear freezes them and moves more slowly until the animals are either gone or out of reach. New melee tactics such as stumbling an enemy with a whip have also been added.

Once the game reaches 100.0%, Lego bricks will fall from the sky in Barnett College.

Nintendo DS

The DS version has some important changes that address both memory and size limitations of the DS, as well as its unique touchscreen controls. The characters' weapons (Indy's whip or Satipo's shovel, ...) and other elements (such as switches, etc.) can be controlled via the touchscreen. In addition, the built-in microphone comes into play, with which the player can blow out torches and inflate an inflatable boat in some levels.

The DS version features characters from Star Wars , including Wicket the Ewok and Luke. these are frozen in an ice cave similar to that of the Wampa, but unlike the console versions, none of the characters are playable. One interesting thing is that if you chase Wicket you can kill him in one hit. There are also no hidden levels and no bonus reward for completing the game at 100%.

In the DS version, contrary to the red packages of the console / PSP version, the red energy stones remain. In addition, the characters do not know the fears of the movie role models from the console versions.
