Lenard "Len" Sutton (born August 9, 1925 in Aims , Oregon , † December 4, 2006 in Portland , Oregon) was an American automobile racing driver .

Career

Sutton started 75 times in the AAA and USAC series between 1955 and 1965 . Also from 1958 to 1962, 1964 and 1965 at the Indianapolis 500 races. The three Indy 500 races in 1958, 1959 and 1960 were included in Formula 1 in order to do justice to their status as world championships . Thus the name Lenard Sutton also appears in the Formula 1 statistics in these years, although he was eliminated early in each of these races. He finished 43 races in the top ten in his career and won three times. He celebrated his greatest success when he finished second in Indianapolis in 1962, behind Rodger Ward .

Lenard Sutton died on December 4, 2006 at the age of 81 in Portland (Oregon) after a long history of cancer .
