life and career
Lene Lovich came to the UK at the age of 13 and lived in Hull . In 1968 she moved to London . She was working on her graduation from art college when she got into show business : street musician , go -go dancer , actress . She sang for The Diversions and Cerrone and met in November 1977 the influential BBC - DJ Charlie Gillett . He sponsored her first record, I Think We're Alone Now , and left the finished piece of music to Stiff Records . With that, Lovich's career took its course. After I Think We're Alone Now , Stiff released the single Lucky Number in early 1979 , and Lovich had a hit at number 3 on the UK charts .
Various single hits followed. Lovich was to play the role in the film Breaking Glass that eventually brought Hazel O'Connor to fame; But her record company insisted that she - instead of filming - promote her records on a world tour. Your hit parade placements seemed to agree with management. But it was all too much for Lovich and she took 18 months off. Tom Verlaine then succeeded in getting her excited about music again; she sang on his album Words from the Front .
In 1979 Lovich played alongside Herman Brood and Nina Hagen in the film Cha-Cha . It was during this time that one of their most famous songs, Home , came into being, which was released as the B-side of the single Lucky Number.
Lovich's commitment to animal rights is also known. Together with Nina Hagen she wrote and sang the song Don't Kill the Animals against animal experiments in 1986 , which was released as a single. The song was also released on a benefit sampler on a benefit sampler for PETA in 1987, with titles from The Smiths , U2 and others .
In 1989, after a break of several years, she recorded the album March . The break came about because of her withdrawal into the family. The album was moderately successful and was, to everyone's amazement, only released a year after the first advance single Wonderland , which became a dance hit in American clubs.
A musical comeback was announced in 2005 . Lovich sang on the CD Take Me to Your Leader of Hawkwind with and accompanied them on a subsequent tour.
Lovich's first album since March , Shadows and Dust , was released on September 13, 2005 on Mike Thorne's Stereo Society label. At the Drop Dead Festival 2006 she performed with her entire band for the first time in years.
Her first live DVD, Lene Lovich: Live from New York , was released in autumn 2007 and featured a concert in the famous Studio 54 in 1981.
Lene Lovich stayed true to her style throughout her artistic career. She still works with Les Chapell to this day.
