Leoben is a place with 44 inhabitants (as of 2001) in the municipality of Krems in Carinthia in the upper Liesertal .

The Katschberg Straße (B 99) leads through Leoben , from where a side street branches off at the confluence of the Leobenbach in the Lieser, which leads through the so-called Leobengraben (valley of the Leobenbach) into the Nockberge National Park . The headwaters of the Leobenbach is near the Königstuhl (Gurktal Alps) in the triangle of Carinthia - Salzburg - Styria.

The name "Leoben" is unusual in the language of the locals. They call their place "the Loim" (similar to Loiben in the Wachau).

Buildings

  • The parish church of St. John Nepomuk on the banks of the Lieser was built between 1752 and 1766. Leoben has been a parish since 1783. Most of the late baroque furnishings in the simple long building date from the time it was built. The church is surrounded by a cemetery and a wall, at the western cemetery gate there is a coat of arms of the Counts Lodron with a former foundation inscription from 1804.
  • The Leobenegg castle ruins (Loimegg / Loibenegg) are located on a steep rock cone above the village. It was first mentioned in a document in 1208 ( Erberhardus de liubneke , Ministeriale des Diocese of Salzburg ). The stronghold has been in decline since the end of the 17th century.
  • The ruins of a blast furnace are located in the Leobengraben .
