Leonardo Cimino

Leonardo Anthony Cimino (born November 4, 1917 in Manhattan , New York City , † March 3, 2012 in Woodstock , New York ) was an American actor .

Life

Leonardo Anthony Cimino was born in Manhattan to Leonilda and Andrea Cimino, a tailor. His parents were of Italian descent. Cimino originally wanted to become a violinist , which is why he studied music at the renowned Juilliard School . But during his studies he discovered acting and dance for himself, so that at the age of 18 he made his theatrical debut as a supporting actor in the play Middle Man , alongside actor Ernest Truex . But the acting jobs failed to materialize, so that in the late 1930s he decided to continue studying acting, directing and modern dance at the Neighborhood Playhouse .

When World War II broke out, he enlisted in the United States Army and participated in Operation Neptune . He was part of the second wave of attacks in the invasion of Normandy. After the war he returned to the United States and finished his studies, including his dance studies with the famous choreographer Martha Graham . In 1946 he made his Broadway debut. He made his screen debut in 1949 in the television series The Big Story . From then on he was seen in over 40 films and Broadway shows at the same time. He played small supporting roles in films such as The Desert Planet , Hudson Hawk - The Master Thief and Waterworld .

Cimino died of complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
