Leonel Urbina (born April 25, 1945 in Zamora , Michoacán ) is a former Mexican soccer player who mainly played in midfield . After his active career, Urbina worked as a coach and is currently secretary of the disciplinary committee of the Mexican Football Association .
Life
society
Urbina began his professional career in 1965 at Atlético Morelia , where he was under contract until 1970.
In 1970 he moved to Puebla FC , for which he not only worked for three years as a player, but also as a coach in two stages in the 1980s for a total of two years.
He spent the last four years of his active career at Atlético Español FC (AEFC), with whom he reached the finals of the Mexican championship against city rivals Cruz Azul in his first season in 1973/74 , but with an aggregate result of 2: 4 ( First leg 2: 1, second leg 0: 3) lost.
In the 1975/76 season he won the CONCACAF Champions Cup with the AEFC . In the first round, the club was able to prevail against league rivals CF Monterrey . After the first leg in Mexico City ended 1-1, AE won the second leg in Monterrey 1-0, with Urbina scoring the game-winning goal. In the semi-finals and the final, AE impressively prevailed with a total of four wins against CD Saprissa (twice 2: 1) and SV Transvaal (3: 0 and 2: 1) and scored the goal in the final first leg to make it 3-0.
National team
In late November and early December 1969, Urbina was used in all five international matches that the Mexican national team played in the 1969 CONCACAF Nations Cup .
