Leonhard Hochenegg

Leonhard Hochenegg (born January 24, 1942 in Innsbruck ; † February 25, 2009 ) was an Austrian neurologist , psychiatrist and naturopath who worked as a faith healer after his license was withdrawn .

Life

Leonhard Hochenegg comes from a medical family. His great-grandfather was a city doctor in Hall in Tirol and his great-uncle Hofrat Julius Hochenegg was a general staff doctor and professor of medicine in Vienna.

Hochenegg studied medicine and graduated in 1967. He then worked as an assistant doctor in the pharmacology department in Switzerland. In 1976 he graduated as a specialist in neurology and psychiatry and from then on worked as a senior physician at the Innsbruck University Hospital . In 1980 he opened his own medical practice in Hall in Tirol . Gradually he drifted into the miracle and spirit healer scene and began to want to heal his patients with obscure therapies.

Hochenegg was charged with "serious bodily harm under particularly dangerous conditions" for two incidents that occurred between 1997 and 2003, as he used two patients, including a woman suffering from breast cancer, with alleged natural remedies, injections and the laying on of hands had treated. He was acquitted in 2008. The medical association had already imposed a professional ban on him in 2000.
