Leonid Isaakowitsch Rojsman (Russian Леонид Исаакович Ройзман, most international English Leonid Roizman Izaakovich * December 22, 1915 . Jul / 4. January  1916 greg. In Kiev , Russian Empire ; † 26. March 1989 in Moscow , USSR ) was a Soviet Musicologist , organist and pianist who was very committed to the importance of the organ and organ music in the Soviet Union. He was co-editor of the New Bach Edition , which appeared in Göttingen and Leipzig.

Life

Leonid Rojsman came from a Jewish family. The father Isaak Rojsman was a mathematics lecturer, the mother Ekaterina was a teacher. Leonid Rojsman studied piano with Alexander Goldenweiser until 1938 and organ with Alexander Goedicke until 1941 at the Moscow Conservatory . From 1942 he lectured on organ, piano and harpsichord.

In 1957 Rojsman took over the organ class at the Conservatory. In 1958 he became chairman of the organ building commission in the USSR. In 1963 he was appointed professor at the Conservatory, and since 1969 he has been deputy chairman of the organ building council at the Ministry of Culture.

Leonid Rojsman shaped many young organists and their students, among them Oleg Jantschenko , who became his successor, Alexander Fiseisky , Alexei Parschin and Marina Tchebourkina . In his work as the person responsible for organ building, he supported the building of new organs in the Soviet Union and, through his contacts, won over German and other international organ building companies.

Leonid Rojsmann published fundamental works on the history of the organ in Russia. He strengthened the importance of this instrument, which played a minor role in the country due to the anti-church position of the state and the lack of existence in Orthodox churches.

Rojsman has made numerous recordings of organ music, especially by Johann Sebastian Bach and other baroque composers, as well as piano concertos of works by classical and especially Russian composers of the 19th and 20th centuries. He published many sheet music editions by baroque and classical composers. Leonid Rojsman was a member of the editorial collective of the New Bach Edition , which appeared in Leipzig and Göttingen.

He was buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow in 1989 .
