Reading.Hearing ( spelling : read.hearing ) is a literature festival in Mannheim . It has taken place every spring since 2007 in the Alte Feuerwache cultural center . The focus is on contemporary German-language literature.

How the Heidelberg Literature Days and the Europa Morgen Land is reading. Listening series are part of the cultural life in the European metropolitan region of Rhine-Neckar .

history

The occasion for the foundation of the literary festival was the 400th anniversary of the city of Mannheim in 2007. The series of literary events opened with a reading by the Georg Büchner Prize winner Wilhelm Genazino , who was born in Mannheim . Since then it has been held annually from the end of February to the beginning of March. The readings are complemented by moderation and discussion with leading critics from German-language feature articles.

From 2007 to 2015, Roger Willemsen was the patron and moderator for the Mannheim Literature Festival. From 2013 Willemsen also worked as a program manager and presented “more themed evenings, stage talks and dialogues with other art forms such as photography and music”. Insa Wilke has been the program manager since 2016 .

In 2009, a festival for children's and youth literature was also launched in cooperation with the Mannheim City Library .

The literature festival is financed by sponsors from business and the public sector (City of Mannheim, State of Baden-Württemberg). In 2007, 15 events were offered, which attracted 3,000 listeners; by 2015 the literature festival had a total of over 36,500 visitors. In 2018, 15 events for adults and 19 for children and young people are planned.
