Leslie Thorne (born June 3, 1916 Greenock , † July 23, 1993 in Troon ) was a British automobile racing driver .
Career
Leslie Thorne was a full-time accountant who in his spare time competed in car races - primarily hill climbs - in his home country of Scotland . Thorne filled his weekends with this preoccupation as early as the 1930s. After the Second World War , he took up racing again.
He drove Formula 3 races with a Cooper - Norton and in 1953 showed such strong performances that David Murray , the Scottish racing driver and owner of the Ecurie Ecosse , offered him a Formula 2 racing car .
Thorne denied the Connaught Type A the Grand Prix of Great Britain in 1954 in Silverstone . At the finish, Thorne was twelve laps behind the winner José Froilán González in a Ferrari 625F1 and was not classified. Thorne also drove a few races in Formula Libre with the best placement at the Chichester Cup at Goodwood .
