The Leubatalsperre or "Talsperre Hohenleuben" is an approximately 3.7 km long reservoir east of the city of Hohenleuben in the district of Greiz , Thuringia .

The reservoir

In 1975 the construction of the dam began. It should provide process water for agriculture. In 1980 the trial damming of the 5 million cubic meters of water and 60 hectares of the dam, which is the third larger dam in the region, alongside the Weidatalsperre and the Zeulenroda dams. The greatest water depth at the dam is 23 m. The dam was handed over in 1981 and the first full dam was reached in 1982. The Leuba flows further north of Hohenleuben into the Weida . Today the dam is used for fish rearing as well as local recreation and low water elevation. It is operated by the Thuringian long-distance water supply .

dam

The dam is a rock rubble dam with an inclined inner seal made of clay. The clay was taken from the storage space . The support body was built from slate , which also comes from the storage space. To protect against the impact of waves and erosion, the water-side edge of the dam crest was reinforced with granite gravel . From a concrete spur at the water side of a Dammfuß was grout curtain cement injected into the ground.

The extraction devices are located in a free-standing tower in the storage space, from which a tunnel leads approximately in the middle through the dam.
