Kauern is a district of Langenwetzendorf in the Greiz district in Thuringia .

location

Kauern is a few hundred meters north of Lunzig on the east bank of the Leubatalsperre . The federal highway 92 leads past northeast and the hamlet can be reached via a local road. The plateau-like slope of the Thuringian Slate Mountains , sloping to the west, is used for agriculture.

history

The hamlet was first mentioned on June 5, 1375. As early as 1503, the Kauernmühle was officially registered in the interest and compulsory register for Gera and Schleiz for the first time. The mill had to be evacuated in July 1954 due to severe flooding. The grinding operation came to a standstill. When the Leubatalsperre was built , it was demolished in 1976–1978. The whole area is below the water level of the lock. The hamlet was and is characterized by agriculture. The dam is important for tourism . As of 2012, 36 people lived in the village. On December 31, 2013, the community of Lunzig was incorporated into Langenwetzendorf, making Kauern a district of Langenwetzendorf.
