Levin Wanner (born August 18, 2000 in Schaffhausen ) is a Swiss handball player and plays on the position of the right wing. He has been playing for HC Kriens-Luzern in the Swiss Handball League since the 2020/21 season . His strengths include not only the safe finish, but also the fast counter-attack and accuracy from the 7 meter point.

Career

Junior period 2011–2018

Levin Wanner began in 2012 at the age of 12 with the Pfader Neuhausen, where he attended handball training for the first time. First he played for the U13 team, with whom he played in the Eastern Switzerland regional league. In the 2012/13 season he and his team qualified for the Swiss championship in Geneva . There it was enough for 5th place in the group stage and 9th / 10th place in the final score.

In the 2013/14 season he gained experience for the first time in the second highest junior league at national level, with the under 15s with the Rhyfall Munot syndicate. In addition, he played just as often in the regional league for the Pfader Neuhausen in the same age group. As a younger year, he was able to complete further training courses with the talent squad in the Eastern regional team.

One season later he started the season with a team, this with SG Rhyfall Munot in the U15 Inter, where he attracted attention with a goal average of 5.1. In the half of the season he also played for the U15 elite squad of the Kadetten Schaffhausen in the highest playing strength at national level. Despite the change and a newly formed team, they maintained the championship lead after 18 rounds and thus reached the final against SG Stäfa / Uster. They then won both finals and were able to celebrate the Swiss championship title in the BBC Arena at home. This season he also played in the main squad of the regional team East, with which he advanced to the final against the regional team from Zurich after several qualifying tournaments at the final tournament. His team lost this, which made them the vice Swiss champions. However, the following selection for the support course for the U17 national team was positive (see career, national team ). Furthermore, Levin Wanner was a member of the Swiss Handball Academy in Schaffhausen, where he trained until summer 2020. During the 2015/16 season he played for the U17 of SG Rhyfall Munot in the Inter strength class, where he finished 5th with 107 goals from 15 games with his team. In addition, he played 19 games with the U17 of the Kadetten Schaffhausen and in the final they faced the selection of HSC Suhr Aaraus . Although they just lost the first final game in Aarau (34:33), but then in the home game (23:19) after a one-week training camp in Slovenia they were able to win the Swiss championship title. From summer 2016 Levin Wanner played mainly for the U19 elite team of the Kadetten Schaffhausen. Where they were in first place after a successful main round and met actual favorites from St.Gallen in the final . The first leg could then be won with 6 goals (28:34), so the defeat with 4 goals (24:28) in Schaffhausen was enough to crown the Swiss champions at the highest junior level. Even though Wanner was still eligible to play for the U17 at that time.

Active career 2017 -

His first season as an active player was also the last in a junior league. With SG GS / Kadetten Espoirs SH, or Kadetten Espoirs for short, he played in the National League B during the 2017/18 season . With 91 goals from 26 games, he immediately attracted attention there. His team finished fifth at the end of the season. His last year as a junior was no less successful, because with the U19 of the Kadetten Schaffhausen , he advanced to the final against HSC Suhr Aarau . In the first home game there was a 13-goal win (39:26), which meant that a defeat in Aarau (29:26) was enough to win the Swiss championship.

In the 2018/19 season Wanner played for the Kadetten Espoirs as well as for the first team of the Kadetten Schaffhausen . With the farm team it was enough at the end of the season in 9th place and with the first team after a play-off against Basel (3: 1), Bern (3: 0) and Pfadi Winterthur (3: 0) even for the Swiss championship title. In addition, he was Vice Cup winner in the final against Wacker Thun in the spring .

The 2019/20 season, which was canceled due to Corona, ended with 17 points from 20 games in 9th place with the Kadetten Espoirs. At the beginning of the season he won the Super Cup with the Kadetten Schaffhausen against Wacker Thun in Winterthur.

In 2020/21 he moved from Schaffhausen on loan, with a two-year contract, to National League A competitor HC Kriens Luzern .

National team

The beginning of his national team career was with the support course in Mürren for the U17 selection, where he qualified for the main squad after an intensive week. The highlights of the next two years in the U17 squad were the national team debut 2016 in Zug against Austria and the 4-country tournament in France with a victory over Iceland . Already in the 2016/17 season, bids for the U19 selection followed.

From the summer of 2017 he was only part of the national team of under 19s. At the championship in Georgia in the summer of 2018, it was enough for his team for 3rd place, after a victory over Macedonia in the game for 3rd place, which means they missed the promotion to the A-EM. Other highlights for Wanner were winning two top scorer prizes at preparation tournaments in Bosnia and Romania . From summer 2019 Levin Wanner will be part of the Swiss U21 national team . Since 2019 he has also been part of the perspective squad of the senior national team in Switzerland and played his first test match against HSG Konstanz on March 2, 2020 .
